About the Six Degrees of Connection

What’s the story behind the story?

John Guare’s ‘six degrees of separation ‘ a play nominated for the Pulitzer Prize for Drama and the Tony Award for Best Play explores the existential premise that everyone in the world is connected to everyone else in the world by a chain of no more than six acquaintances, thus, “six degrees of separation”.
Towards the end of the play, in a climactic moment of reflection, one of the main character Ouisa, delivers the play’s most famous monologue:

I read somewhere that everybody on this planet is separated by only six other people. Six degrees of separation. Between us and everybody else on this planet. The president of the United States. A gondolier in Venice. fill in the names. It’s not just big names. It’s anyone. A native in a rain forest. A Tierra del Fuegan. An Eskimo. I am bound to everyone on this planet by a trail of six people. It’s a profound thought. How every person is a new door, opening up into other worlds. Six degrees of separation between me and everyone else on this planet. But to find the right six people

The title of the podcast is reflective of the six degrees of our personal connections and based on the premise that our journey through life is filled with people. Some become family, friends and others delve in our memories as faint slivers of experiences. But no matter how deep or faint, they travel the length of the spectrum of who we could all our ‘connections’ and each one has played a part into how our own life has shaped into and perhaps still does.

In this podcast we introduce you to my own six degrees of connections and try to answer the questions ; Who are they, What makes them tick, Where do they get their ideas from and How, Why are they wired differently ? We bring them to life in detail helping to truly learn about, understand and appreciate the real people and experiences underneath the hood and open up new other worlds helping in the understanding of ours. And suddenly they are mentors, role models, inspirations and ideas from near and afar …..all you had to do is look into your own six degrees of connections to find them.
